Fumigation Litigation

Fumigants and fumigation services are one of the most regulated industries. EPA, OHS, FDA, USDA, states, counties and NGO all have an impact on fumigation requirements. This matrix of regulation changes often, and we can help you stay compliant with the law, help manage your fumigation risks and help deliver value through solving pest problem(s).

Commodity Fumigation Perspective

Delivering scientific solutions to commodity protection and food safety's most pressing challenges.

Fumigation is relatively common in our society. Fumigants are used in preplant soil, structures such as houses, restaurants, and a wide variety of commercial buildings. Commodity Fumigation is common in agriculture and some food processing markets.

Fumigants are amazing in their function. As gases, they go where no other pesticide can go. They are non-selective, meaning they kill egg, larvae, pupae and adult phases of insects -where they reside. This mobility is unlike all other pest remediation measures. Speed is yet another attribute. In some cases, a facility can have a serious pest problem and in a matter of hours the pest problem is eliminated. Most overlooked are fumigants low to no residual toxicity.

Remove fumigants from your pest control toolbox and you remove a critical control tool. If cleaning alone cannot mitigate pest issues, or structural challenges yield pest opportunity, or a supplier driven issue overwhelms your operation, without fumigant gases, you now have limited ability to manage serious pest situations. What is left for you are pesticides with heavy residual realities. In ever changing consumer sentiment, does the consumer want less pesticides, or less pesticide residue when managing a pest free expectation? If lower residues are the true intent, the value and importance of fumigants are situationally realized.

The fumigant tool does not come without its challenges. The downside of fumigants are large volumes of material used, cost, and lack of transparency for treatments. This is why an experienced and skilled advisor is so – important. Managing cost options and developing transparency of treatment must be managed and continuous improvement driven assertively.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English.

We Help Ensure Post-Harvest Pest Protection In Domestic & International Markets

Post-Harvest markets can be separated into five industries 1) Grain 2) Seed / Nut 3) Milling, 4) Food Processing and 5) Import / Export. These markets can be similar or very different. Proficiencies in one industry usually do not translate to the other four industries. What is common to these industries are pests harming their commodities and products.

Commodity Fumigation is difficult work and in so many was, an undesirable career. Long hours, hot dirty hard work, away from home many weekends and holidays, dangerous material handling, dangerous industrial work environments.

For these reasons, many people and companies do not stay in this field of work. For 38 years we have been deeply emersed in post-harvest commodity and food processing fumigation. We have observed people and companies come and go, while recognizing their successes and failures. We have learned from each one.

The Fumigation Company supports those new to fumigation, those that want to expand in other industries, and even to sophisticated companies that want to refresh their processes. Is it time for you to review your fumigation processes and options? Let The Fumigation Company see if we can help you improve.

About Our Owner

John B. Mueller

Raised the son of a flour miller, I realized early the role and importance of fumigants in a sound commodity and food safety program. Over the past 38 years I have been a part of great teams who have experienced some of the most difficult stored product challenges. Safely solving these pest challenges was always at the forefront of our approach.

We have managed or built multiple fumigation companies successfully. From these successes we have sold these fumigation businesses at high valuation. From a different perspective, we have experience working with a global company and participated in fumigation company acquisition as well as commercial agreements of exclusivity. We understand the business of fumigation from A – Z. Our record while managing fumigation companies is stellar for safety, compliance, and performance.

Over these years we have worked with fumigant manufacturers to develop new products or new methods for fumigants. We helped with each step of this process, from market assessment to initial US EPA and California EPA meetings, to small trials, commercial trials, and product launch.

We have worked with government organizations, researchers, and NGOs to find alternatives and improved methods of treatment. We have helped author papers and books on stored product protection, won awards for alternative fumigation processes, and have been active as a national and international post-harvest speaker.

The hard work required, and successful outcomes still excite me today. Let us apply our knowledge and experience to help you with your Commodity Fumigation needs. And again, let’s have a little fun while we do it.
